I saw quite a few doctors here while I was pregnant because my high-risk pregnancy brought me in quite a lot. Dr. Moore, Dr. Saraff, and Dr. Berkle were all so amazing. I felt like I had known them for years. When I spoke they listened to what I had to say, they explained everything to me and always made sure that I was informed and given every option I had. I would highly recommend them to anyone and everyone.
If you are a woman who is looking for a dr that cares about you and what you are going through medically look somewhere else... sadly this office/practice does not meet this expectation....
I saw Dr. Berkle on 3/28/16. I have a lot of symptoms which I believe associated with the perimenopause. Though of course it is possible I might have other problems causing these symptoms. I have trouble sleeping, irritability, unexplainable weight gain, low sex drive. After talking to me for about 2 minutes Dr. Berkle concluded that there was no reason to have my blood tested because hormones are all over the place and once I am menopausal and everything is stabilized then hormone replacement therapy will be possible. According to Dr. Berkle in my present state I need to take Venlafaxine, antidepressant and Ambien, which is hypnotic, a sedative. The rationale was that Ambien could help me with sleep problem. Venlafaxine could make me less irritable and also it is possible help with the weight loss. It was not exactly clear how but " maybe it will help to increase the loss of water or maybe change the way your body process carbohydrates". And oh yes! The low sex drive. Well according to Dr. Berlke " maybe it will get better if you sleep more" . In any case " you are at the point of your life when your reproductive system is shutting down so it is natural to have diminished sex drive" . No any other possible alternative treatments which could help me were even mentioned. Dr. Berkle asked me exactly 2 questions about my symptoms before he suggested antidepressants. I mentioned that I had 2 separate menstrual cycles within days of each other and this idea was completely brushed off and pretty much ignored. Just looking into my eyes Dr. Berkle pronounced a diagnosis that it was just one menstrual cycle and I am confused about the whole process. The appointment with Dr. Berkle (and I was a new patient whom he never had seen before) lasted exactly 5.5 minutes. If you want to join millions of people who take antidepressant and do not have depression then Dr, Berkle is your man; otherwise you are probably much better off self-medicating yourself.
